A University of Cincinnati football staffer has been fired after being charged with misdemeanor sexual abuse for a May incident in which he pressed his exposed penis on a 73-year-old Kroger store employee’s buttocks while she was helping him locate an item.
Reports say that 28-year-old Antrione Archer is appealing the school’s decision to fire him, asking instead that he be given a 60-day suspension. Archer, formerly the director of player welfare and development, was arrested on June 14 for the incident that happened on May 27. Archer confessed on June 10, four days before he was arrested and charged with sexual abuse.
Archer allegedly exposed his penis in various parts of the Kroger grocery store on the day in question, and surveillance video shows him actually engaging in the activity.
“On Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, the University was informed of an arrest involving Antrione Archer in Kenton County, Kentucky,” the university said in a statement. “Within hours of learning of the incident, Archer was placed on administrative leave and subsequently terminated on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014. UC Athletics is fully committed to upholding the highest level of professionalism and conduct for our staff, coaches and student-athletes. The University will cooperate with the authorities in this matter.”
Still, Archer’s lawyer insists that the behavior was consensual.
“The alleged incident, which was recorded by Kroger security cameras, shows Mr. Archer and a Kroger employee having consensual close conversations in the pharmacy aisles followed by consensual dancing of a rhythmic nature,” said Archer’s lawyer James Noll.
Noll and Archer believe that the university acted prematurely by firing him and are hoping that the issue will be “resolved.”
