Mom Gets Mixed Opinions After Video Of Her Punishing Her Daughter With A Belt Goes Viral (Video)

A mother posted a video online of her beating her 12-year-old daughter with a belt as a punishment, and despite the mixed reactions the viral video has brought about, the mother continues to defend what she did.

Helen Bartlett, a single mother raising three children, discovered that her 12-year-old daughter had been texting a boy that was trying to get her to have sex with him. Out of concern, Bartlett decided to access the preteen’s Facebook page and was shocked to discover that she had been posting half-naked pictures.

To punish her 12-year-old daughter for her behavior, Bartlett decided to beat her daughter with a belt and capture it on video. During the clip, Bartlett screams profanities while her daughter sobs.

The six-minute video sparked outrage from some and support from others, and despite the mixed reactions, Bartlett defends her method of discipline.

“I stand firmly by my decision. I will go to jail for it,” said Bartlett. “I know people are saying the authorities should charge me for abuse.”

The daughter and her sister posted a response to the viral clip once it started to spread on the Internet, and in it, they maintain that their mother is a good person who did what she thought was right.

Bartlett could now potentially face abuse charges, but even still, she says she’s ready for whatever happens to her.

“I know that the government is trying its hardest best to show no nonsense and no tolerance, but as I said off air, I really do expect it and I will embrace it, I will wear that bracelet as a badge of honour for my kids,” said Bartlett in a press conference. “I will go to jail and sit down proudly, knowing that my 12-year-old daughter, even the 10-year-old coming up, did not bring shame and bring a child for me at 15 or 12 or 16.”

Bartlett says she has the support of her daughters as well as others from around the world and hopes that this will be a lesson to other teens about the consequences of their choices.
