Thanks to a toy she keeps on her nightstand, a Florida woman was able to scare off a man who was peering into her bedroom. When the man woke her up, Jane Rainboth reached for what looked like a black, semi-automatic pistol on her nightstand.
"I got a gun! I got a gun!" she screamed, even though the “gun” she was holding was made of plastic. The man, later identified as Roland Stuart, took off running and Rainboth chased him all the way out of her apartment.
"I guess if somebody tells you they've got a gun, you don't want to stick around to find out if it's real or not," Rainboth said.
After Stuart fled, Rainboth ran outside and started screaming for help. When sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene, she was still holding onto the toy gun, The Sun-Sentinel reported.
"They said, 'Put the gun down, put the gun down!'" Rainboth recounted. She explained it was only a toy.
Stuart, 27, was found hiding in the woods by a police dog. He was arrested and charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling.
"I hope he will learn something from this and maybe think twice before he ever does it again," Rainboth said.
Even though it worked out for best, Rainboth is still a little traumatized by the episode.
"You could see the whites of his eyes in the dark," she said. "That's kind of what haunts me."
