Juan Rivero and his son found a huge, unwelcome surprise in their South Florida neighborhood over the weekend.
Rivero and his kid were out on a bike ride when they saw a massive 12-foot python slithering across the road. The two said they wanted nothing to do with the python, so they enlisted the help of a neighbor with experience handling snakes.
When neighbor Daryl Brooks arrived, she could not believe her eyes.
“It was huge. I said, ‘Oh my God, it’s a python!’ and the head was bigger than my hand,” Brooks said.
She immediately sprung into action.
“I tell you this woman is an adventurous woman,” Rivero said. “She chased the thing down.”
When the snake crawled into a neighbor’s back yard, under a neighbor's grill, Brooks called the home’s owner over.
“I was afraid to grab her myself because she was strong so there was a guy coming out,” Brooks told CBS Miami. “I looked at him and I said, ‘Are you afraid of snakes?’ and he said ‘No,’ and I said, ‘Come over here’… I pulled the barbecue grill back and they got it out and we wrestled it, and it tried to wrap around the man’s arm and stuff, but we held it.”
The group tried to hold the snake in a pillow case, but quickly realized they would need something much bigger. They grabbed a grill cover and managed to stuff the python inside. They held the snake there for 45 minutes until Animal Control arrived and took it off their hands.
Just another day in South Florida:
