22-year-old Florida woman Jenna Porter shot and killed her three-year-old daughter Scarlett and then herself near Hilaman Golf Course, a public course near Tallahassee.
Golfers discovered the two bodies after hearing gunfire on Tuesday evening. They immediately called 911 and stayed at the scene until police arrived.
“They made the discovery,” said Lt. James McQuaig. “They called 911 and they waited for us to get there.” The handgun that Porter used was found at the scene. Autopsy results indicate that both of the deceased died from a single gunshot wound to the head. Porter was a single mother and investigators have been unable to identify or contact the father of her child thus far.
Porter's Facebook page shows that she had worked as an assistant manager at a uniform store since July of last year, reports The Daily Mail. She has been arrested twice in the past year on driving-related charges. Porter was booked on a DUI charge in January and in August of 2012 she was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended/revoked license.
“When I heard what happened, I just walked around because the back end of the golf course here and then I saw the deceased and it just stopped me in my place,” Ray Parsons said. “It made me feel sad because she is lying on the ground and there's nothing she could do for herself ... and that's kind of shocking.” He added that the shooting was out-of-place in the quiet neighborhood.
