A Florida man shot at two maintenance trucks that were working on telephone poles outside his home after he became upset at their presence.

Jorge Jove, 64, noticed the two AT&T trucks parked outside his home in Hialeah, Florida, and became upset enough to draw a gun and begin shooting at the tires of the trucks, according to WSVN. Jove issued several shots into the tires of each of the two maintenance trucks.

"[The AT&T workers] said, ‘We’ll move in a few minutes. We’re just working on the poles. We’re supposed to be here,'” explained Hialeah Police Sgt. Carl Zogby. "He went back into his house, came out a few moments later with a gun and started firing at both AT&T trucks that were on the scene."

One of the AT&T workers called the police as the other remained in the bucket of the maintenance truck. The second worker was lifted up to work on one of the telephone lines when Jove began shooting at the trucks.

"He's shooting the truck right now," AT&T technician Derrick Taylor said on the 911 call, according to the Miami Herald. "There's a guy shooting the tires and shooting the engines and everything."

After shooting at the tires in one of the trucks, it appeared Jove then began shooting at the radiator of the other, preventing the second maintenance worker from lowering the bucket in which he was standing. Zogby said the number of shots Jove fired led them to question whether he was just shooting at the trucks and not the workers.

Jove was taken into custody by local police and was held for questioning. He would not answer questions from reporters, according to WFOR. Jove is a retired firefighter from the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, where he reportedly worked for 34 years.

"We don’t have any negative information about him, about any criminal history from any of his neighbors,” said Sgt. Zogby. "He seemed to be a quiet man and something made him snap today. This is a very irrational act that he committed there.”

Neighbors defended Jove, saying he was a good neighbor and that they did not expect this kind of outburst from him. One neighbor noted, though, that Jove had a previous run-in with AT&T about trucks on his property -- they had been parked in his driveway and Jove confronted them, asking them to move, according to WSVN.
