Florida Man Edward Daniels Found Guilty Of Manslaughter In Fatal Dog Mauling

A Florida man was found guilty of manslaughter after his 7-year-old neighbor was mauled by his dogs. Jurors only had to debate for two hours before retuning the verdict against Edward Daniels. The jury found Daniels not guilty of tampering with evidence for washing blood from one of the dogs after the attack.

Daniels testified that he did not know what had happened while he was washing Tyler Jett’s blood off of his dog, Fat Boy. He had heard a gunshot and thought that was why his dog was bloody. Only later did he find out what had really happened.

"I felt bad," Daniels said. "I was surprised by it. I didn't think my dogs would do something like that.”

Prosecutor Larry Basford did not put much stock in Daniels’ claims that his dogs never behaved violently, CBS News reported.

“You can’t stick your head in the sand like an ostrich and pretend the world isn’t there,” Basford said.

The dogs have been euthanized. Daniels has no previous criminal history. He faces 15 years in prison when he appears in front of a judge for sentencing on Oct. 14.
