On Nov. 17, a Florida jury witnessed the moment a wife was shot and killed by her own husband.
Derek Medina insists that the shooting was in self-defense. However, there’s no evidence that Jennifer Alfonso, his wife, was physically attacking him as he shot her down in their kitchen.
Unfortunately, the video is angled and doesn’t capture everything that happens in the kitchen.
According to two police officers who dealt with Medina on the day of the shooting, Medina never asked for medical attention and showed no sign of physical injury. Medina claimed that his wife often hit and pushed him, and that she had been doing that right before the shooting.
In the video, Medina can be seen taking a picture of his wife’s body, then changing clothes and leaving the house. He later turned himself in to police.
On Nov. 17, prosecutors said they were close to wrapping up their main case and will begin putting witnesses on defense. It’s unclear whether or not Medina will testify.
Medina was charged with illegal discharge of a weapon and child neglect, since Alfonso’s 10-year-old daughter was in the home when her mother was shot.
