An elderly man, Bruce Laclair, was recently slapped in the face by Fort Lauderdale Police Officer Victor Ramirez at a bus terminal in Florida.
The incident was caught on cell phone video (below) by a witness.
In the beginning of the video, Laclair is shoved to the ground by Officer Ramirez who demands that he get up. Officer Ramirez also tells Laclair, who may be homeless, not to urinate at the terminal, noted Local 10.
While Laclair lays on the ground, he and Officer Ramirez exchange the F-word several times before Officer Ramirez slaps the old man in the face. This all happens in the first 60 seconds of the encounter.
After slapping him, Officer Ramirez arrests Laclair.
Fort Lauderdale police have a long record of arresting homeless people, and even arrested a 90-year-old man for feeding the homeless in 2014.
In December 2014, the SunSentinel reported that a judge temporarily blocked Fort Lauderdale's law against feeding homeless people.
In another recent incident, a deputy dragged a mentally ill woman on the floor in the Broward County Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale (video below).
"You're hurting me!" cried Dasyl Rios as she was dragged by the Broward County Sheriff's deputy.
Before the incident, two doctors stated in court that Rios was not competent to stand trial for two misdemeanors.
"I've been doing this for 12 years," Chief assistant public defender Lynn Desanti told Local 10. "I've never seen anything more degrading. I was shocked. I was speechless. I finally said, 'What are you doing? Stop it,' and he was just, he wasn't listening. He was going to drag her back to jail."
Both the slapping and dragging incidents are under investigation.
