Five Mothers Arrested For Leaving Kids In Care Of Known Sex Offenders (Video)

Five Iowa mothers were arrested for knowingly leaving their children in the care of registered sex offenders and child pornographers.

Davenport Police confirmed at least six of the children were victims of abuse, neglect or child pornography while under the care of two male sex offenders, James Faler and Melvin Lucier.

“At one point or another, they had custody of children, and they allowed those children to go to a sex offender’s residence,” Lieutenant Bryce Schmidt of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office told WQAD. “Unfortunately in some of those incidents, there were some sexual acts that did take place during those incidents.”

Sherry Ann Oats, 48, was charged with four counts of child endangerment plus one count of child endangerment with bodily injury. Sarah Melissa McConnell, 34, was charged with one count of child endangerment plus three counts of child endangerment with bodily injury. Jenni Jenkins, 29, was charged with one count of child endangerment with bodily injury. Shaneka Posey, 23, was charged with two counts of child endangerment with bodily injury.

A fifth mother, Jessica Epping, was also arrested for allowing Faler to supervise her 6-year-old son.

“Some of the kids are very young, almost too young to talk to, where for them to comprehend. The ones that we were able to successfully interview, I think there were 6 or 8 that were part of the investigation,” said Schmidt.

Three adults were arrested and charged in connection with the child abuse in early April and now four more suspects have been arrested.

Faler and Lucier were charged with some of the attacks. A third suspect was arrested for failing to report to the registry. According to the Daily Mail, there are still seven other sex offenders living in the mobile home park.

“I’ve had a lot of sex abuse cases over the last 20 years, but this is probably the largest sex abuse case with this amount of people involved in it by far,” Schmidt said.
