Five-Month-Old Baby Taken Off Life Support After Reportedly Being Brutally Beaten By Mother's Boyfriend

A five-month-old baby has been taken off of life support in Florida just days after he was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries as a result of being beaten by his mother’s boyfriend, according to police.

Andres Bravo suffered from brain injuries, a lung contusion, retinal hemorrhaging to both eyes and bruises on his buttocks, reports Daily Mail. Antwan Sawyer, the 27-year-old boyfriend of the baby’s mother and his caretaker at the time, claimed the child fell off a bed.

But it didn’t take long for investigators and medical examiners to determine that his injuries were not accidental. Sawyer was arrested on Tuesday and prosecutors have raised his charges from aggravated child abuse to attempted felony murder, reports WPLG. This will reportedly be his tenth arrest since 2005, according to police, and past arrests include aggravated assault with a weapon, trespassing, grand theft and cocaine possession, reports Miami Herald.

But Andres’ father, Adolfo Bravo, says he won’t be satisfied until his baby’s mother is also arrested for allowing this to happen.

Sascha Marie Garcia, who is reportedly employed as an exotic dancer at a club in Miami, was at work at the time the incident took place, according to police. The details of the alleged beatings are still unclear, but it is thought that she left for work in the morning and returned home to find her child brutally beaten and that Sawyer told her he had fallen out of his crib.

Bravo says Garcia called him herself to tell him about Andres’ injuries, but that she downplayed how severe they were.

“I was going to stop by and visit him,” Bravo said. “But I ended up never leaving.”

One of the woman’s neighbors told the Miami Herald that she often heard Garcia yelling and cursing at her baby and a toddler.

Andres would have been six months old on Sunday.
