Five Dead After Washington State Apartment Shootout

A gunman killed four people and then possibly himself during a shooting at an apartment complex in Federal Way, Wash., on Sunday. According to authorities, the violent incident was caused by a dispute that may have started in the complex’s parking lot.

When police responded to the scene at the Pinewood Apartments near 333rd Street and Pacific Highway South in Federal Way, the bullets were still flying. "When officers arrived there were still shots being fired," said Cathy Schrock, the Federal Way police spokeswoman.

Officers discovered two injured men in the complex’s parking lot and, as they approached, one of the men reached for a gun. Police then opened fire. The man died, but authorities are unsure if his death was caused by shots that were fired by law enforcement, Fox News reported. Eight officers fired their weapons during the exchange of gunfire.

In total, police found three dead bodies in the parking lot (including the gunman) and two dead in apartments. One of the deceased was a woman. Authorities have not released the names of the people were who killed.

Investigators are still searching for answers as to what exactly happened, but they do not believe that area residents need to worry about another gunman.

"We're gonna continue to go door to door in hopes that we can find some additional witnesses, and hopefully we won't be finding any more victims." Schrock said.  "We still don't have any idea what started this disturbance tonight."
