As the New York Daily News reports, NYPD officers are typically forbidden from posting pictures of themselves in uniform to the web unless the photo is from an official ceremony.

In addition to photos, officers are instructed to maintain a professional presence on social media. According to the NYPD’s official instructions on the topic, “Members of the service utilizing personal social media sites are to exercise good judgment and demonstrate the same degree of professionalism expected of them while performing their official duties.”

According to the New York Daily News, any NYPD officer caught violating the department’s social media policy could be terminated.
