A decorated New York City Fire Department captain will be extradited to Los Angeles to face charges of sex crimes against at least two children, police said.
Capt. Wilbert Riera, 51, a 21-year veteran of the FDNY, was arrested by FBI officials in Staten Island Friday on a felony warrant for a crime committed against children, Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Nuria Vanegas told KTLA.
The incident allegedly took place in Hollywood on Sept. 12.
The date of his extradition is unknown, Vanegas said. He is expected to be arraigned on Monday.
Riera has received medals of valor while working as an EMS captain in Staten Island, KTLA reported. He reportedly received three awards for saving four patients while en route to the hospital.
He was suspended for 30 days without pay, an FDNY spokesperson told Long Island News 12.
Federal charges are not expected.
FBI officials would not comment on the case.
