The FBI is reportedly searching for a 12-member terrorist sleeper cell linked to the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
The Daily Mirror reported that over 1,000 FBI agents are hunting down the cell. They believe the Tsarnaev brothers were trained to bomb the Boston Marathon.
So far a man and two women were arrested in New Bedford, 60 miles from Boston, before 19-year-old Dzhokhar was captured on Friday.
“We have no doubt the brothers were not acting alone. The devices used to detonate the two bombs were highly sophisticated and not the kind of thing people learn from Google,” a source close to the investigation told the Daily Mirror.
“They were too advanced. Someone gave the brothers the skills and it is now our job to find out just who they were. Agents think the sleeper cell has up to a dozen members and has been waiting several years for their day to come,” the source said.
A team of specialists from the CIA and interreogators from the FBI were flown to Boston to question Dzhokhar, who is currently hospitalized.
Tom Blumer of newsbusters.com claims that Boston Mayor Tom Menino and much of the press is ignoring reports of a possible domestic terrorist sleeper cell in order to minimize public concern. Menino told the Associated Press that the boys acted alone despite contradictory reports in the U.K.
Dzhokhar allegedly attended a party on Wednesday, hours before his brother Tamerlan’s death. Students reported he “looked relaxed” that night.
The other three arrested are also believed to be college age.
Tamerlane Tsarnaev, the 26-year-old radicalized brother, allegedly spent six months last year in Russia. “It’s a key thread for investigators,” senior FBI counter-terrorism official Kevin Brock said.
