FAU Professor James Tracy Claims Navy Yard Shooting Was Government Conspiracy

A tenured professor at a Florida university posted an article on his blog where he alleges that Monday's Navy Yard shooting in Washington, D.C. may have been perpetrated by the U.S. government.

James Tracy, an associate professor of communications at Florida Atlantic University, bases his theory on the notion that mass shootings are often staged to drum up public support for gun control.

On his blog, Tracy's points out online news stories about the Navy Yard shootings that bear the date Sept. 15 instead of Sept. 16, and photos that supposedly show EMTs and police not doing their jobs properly.

Tracy’s classes examine “the relationship between commercial and alternative news media and socio-political issues and events.” He has floated similar theories about the Boston Marathon bombings and the Sandy Hook massacre, The Huffington Post reported.

“Florida Atlantic University does not agree with Mr. Tracy’s views or opinions regarding the Navy Yard shooting in Washington, D.C.,” university spokeswoman Lisa Metcalf said in an email. “We are saddened by any media stories that have added to the pain felt by the victims’ families and friends as a result of this unspeakable tragedy.”
