An Indiana father, who had became suspicious of the bruises on his children, reportedly caught his wife beating them on camera.
"I started coming home and noticed that there were injuries to my children," Steve Corthorn told WDRB.
“There were like bruises and bumps, like missing fingernails and cuts,” he added.
Corthorn’s wife and the mother of his children, Kendra Beswick, allegedly told him that she didn’t know how the children were being injured, so Corthorn decided to secretly install cameras in their Peskin, Indiana, apartment without Beswick’s knowledge.
He didn’t check the video until he grew suspicious in early November.
"She quit texting me and telling me how the kids were and that kind of sent up red flag," he said, "but then I went ahead and went home from work and found out she was going and the kids were gone.
" ... Then I just started going back through just video footage from that week and I happened upon that click and I said, oh my gosh, I can't believe this is going on."
Corthorn’s footage allegedly showed Beswick abusing their children.
After seeing the footage, Corthorn went to court to get full custody of his children, but the judge ordered for joint custody, WHAS11 reported.
However, when it was Corthorn's turn to have the kids, he said he found new bruises on them. That's when Corthorn went to police, and Beswick was arrested.
"A big difference in spanking a child and beating a child and I think that anybody can watch this video and probably can say that the mother probably went too far,” Sgt. Jerry Goodin, with Indiana State Police, said, according to WDRB.
Beswick has been charged with two counts of battery on a child under the age of 14, and she was still in jail as of Dec. 3.
Corthorn said he is also seeking a divorce.
“It is awful," he added to WHAS11. "I have cried many nights because I just felt like I couldn't do anything for my children.
“ ... Hopefully they won't remember this when they get older. I hope they won't remember this abuse and it doesn't affect them long term.”
