Father And Son Sentenced For Assaulting The Same Underage Girl Separately

Publish date:

A father and son were sentenced to prison for raping the same underage girl in Taymouth Township, Michigan, proving once and for all that sometimes the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Marc A. Rowe Jr., who is now 19, was sentenced to three to 15 years in prison for three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. Rowe Jr. will also have to register as a sex offender and his record will not be sealed.

Rowe Jr. was in college when he engaged with his victim, who was in eighth grade at the time. Due to their age difference, she could not legally consent to sex with him.

Rowe Jr.’s father, Marc A. Rowe Sr., was sentenced to 22 years and 11 months to 35 years in prison for seven counts of sexual conduct with the same girl, who is now 14. He will also have to register as a sex offender and will be subject to electronic monitoring.

The Rowes repeatedly engaged in sexual activity over the course of two years. Rowe Sr. assaulted her between December 2012 and May 2014 and Rowe Jr.’s encounter was in May 2014 — he was 18 at the time.

Rowe Jr. apologized in court when he was handed down his punishment, about an hour before his father was sentenced. “I'm sorry for all the pain I've caused, all the problems that this has spawned," he said. He added later, "I wish this could have all been avoided, but it happened, and it's all my fault.”

Midland County Circuit Judge Michael J. Beale noted Rowe Jr.’s seemingly “casual” approach to assaulting the victim.

"It is punishment that is being exacted here today," Beale said, not rehabilitation.

The Rowes were initially charged as co-defendants, but none of the facts suggested the father and son were working together.
