Germany: Muslim Father Strangles 19-Year-Old Daughter To Death In Alleged 'Honor Killing'

Asadullah Khan, 51, has admitted to strangling his 19-year-old daughter Lareeb, a dental technician, in January after she was caught shoplifting condoms.

The trouble allegedly started when Lareeb had adopted a less conservative lifestyle and continued seeing her boyfriend even after she was beaten for dating him and forbidden from continuing the relationship, International Business Times reports.

"Lareeb stayed away from the home for several nights in a row and stopped wearing the headscarf," Shazia, Asadullah's wife, told the court, according to IB Times. "One day we received a letter from the police saying she had been caught trying to steal condoms."

Both Shazia and Asadullah are from Pakistan, but they now live in Germany, as does Lareeb.

"At this point it became clear that there was sexual contact," Shazia added. "When I showed the letter to my husband he snapped.”

Lareeb’s 14-year-old sister, Nida, was sent to a relative’s home and Asadullah and Lareeb got into an argument, The Independent reported. Lareeb allegedly hit Asadullah during the argument, and while Lareeb was sleeping later, Asadullah strangled her to death. Though Shazia tried to intervene, she said she wasn't strong enough to stop him.

Shazia later helped her husband dress Lareeb’s body and put her body in a wheelchair so they could dump her body down an embankment in a secluded forest, where it was found the next day.

Nida testified that her mother wasn’t as feeble as she claimed.

"My mama was not suppressed, she could do what she wanted," she told the court. "She used to hit me with a stick. We were never allowed to talk about her [Lareeb's] boyfriend. My father used to say my sister should be forcibly married in Pakistan."

Lareeb’s boyfriend, 25-year-old Raheel, told the court that they wanted to get married and that she had told him about her parents’ physical abuse. Shazia allegedly hit her daughter with a stick and pressed her hand against a hot stove. Asadullah had allegedly tried to strangle Lareeb before.

Nida no longer has contact with her parents. The case is ongoing.
