Maryland Fire Dept. Rescues Baby Left In Hot Car For Three Hours

A 6-month-old baby is recovering in the hospital after accidentally being left in a hot car alone for three hours by his father.

The infant’s father, 31, was on his way to work 7 a.m. Wednesday morning and forgot something very important. He parked his car at the Forest Glen Metro station parking lot in Silver Spring, Maryland, and got on the Red Line.

It took him about three hours to realize that he had left his baby in the car. He called the baby’s grandparents, who then called 911, WTOP reported.

The Montgomery County Fire Department and EMS arrived at the scene and rescued the child. They broke a window in the car and rushed the baby to Holy Cross Hospital.

Metro’s Sherri Ly said the baby is conscious, but has an elevated temperature. A preliminary investigation shows the baby had been left in the car from 7:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. The temperature outside was 80 degrees at the time, according to reports.

Police are now talking to the father, whose name was not released. The case is being referred to the Montgomery County Department of Social Services, My Fox DC reported.
