Maybe Caster Semanya should have slowed down. The 18-year-old South African won the women's 800 meter finals at the World Track Championships on Wednesday so convincingly, finishing a full two seconds ahead of her nearest challenger, that some of her competitors have begun to insist she's actually a man.
Semanya's family has countered that such allegations are absurd. "She is my little girl. ... I raised her and I have never doubted her
gender," Caster's father told a South African newspaper. "She is a woman and I can
repeat that a million times."
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has ordered Semanya to undergo a gender test. The results are expected in approximately two weeks.
