A Philadelphia man who was the target of an alleged murder-for-hire plot on Facebook this spring has been shot dead on a Philly street. Now police are looking into whether this is related to the previous plot to kill him.
Police say 22-year-old Corey White was standing on the street Monday night when a car pulled up.
"The preliminary investigation reveals that the occupants of a brown vehicle pulled up on the decedent, got out, there was some type of verbal confrontation -- and one of them pulled out a gun and shot him once in the chest," said Philadelphia Police Captain James Clark.
White was pronounced dead at the hospital.
In June his girlfriend London Eley posted a note on Facebook offering $1,000 to anyone who would kill White. A teenager responded and offered to take the job. They were both arrested.
Eley's lawyer said his client was not serious, that she was just venting after the couple argued.
On Monday a judge approved murder conspiracy and solicitation charges against the suspects; hours later White was killed.
It's not known if this was a coincidence or related to the plot.
"There are a couple of other theories out there," Captain Clark said.
