ESPN Personality Jay Mariotti Arrested for Domestic Violence

Known for his acerbic wit and sharp condemnation of athletes who make poor decisions off the field, sports personality Jay Mariotti has been released from a Los Angeles jail on $50,000 bail. He was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic assault.

According to a story in the L.A. Times, Mariotti and his unidentified girlfriend were at a Santa Monica nightclub Friday evening. They engaged in a loud verbal altercation at the location, supposedly over whether the girlfriend was flirting with another man.

The couple continued fighting when they returned to Mariotti's home in nearby Venice. At that point, the argument became violent. Reports of the incident allege that Mariotti pushed, shoved and grabbed his girlfriend by the arm leaving cuts and bruises.

The writer, who appears on such TV shows as Around the Horn, writes for online media outlet Fanhouse and does ESPN radio, was arrested and booked into the 77th Street Station of the Los Angeles Police Department at 4:30 a.m.  He was later released on bail.
