11-Year-Old Boy Reportedly Shoots Would-Be Burglar

An 11-year-old boy in Alabama reportedly shot and stopped a would-be burglar from attempting to rob his house on April 27.

Home school student Chris Gaither was alone at his home in Talladega when the intruder entered, WVTM reports.

When he heard footsteps upstairs, the boy told police he took out a 9 millimeter hand gun.

“When he was coming down the stairs, that’s when he told me he was going to kill me, f-you and all that,” Chris told WVTM.

He says the burglar then tried leaving with a hamper through the front door.

“When I pulled the gun, I guess he didn’t think it was a real gun because he kept on walking,” he added

To the man’s surprise, Chris started firing off real bullets. The man was reportedly about to jump over a fence in the yard to escape when the boy managed to hit the man on his 12th shot.

“I shot through the hamper he was carrying,” Chris said. It was a full metal jacket bullet. It went straight through the back of his leg. He started crying like a little baby."

The intruder was taken to hospital.

“I hope you learn your lesson coming to this house trying to steal stuff,” Chris said.

Investigators revealed this is not the first time the man, who remains unidentified, has tried to rob the Gaither home. The Gaither family say they do not know the burglar personally.

This is not the first time a child has shot an intruder in self-defense.

In November 2015, a 13-year-old South Carolina boy shot and killed a burglar attempting to rob his home, the New York Daily News reports.

“I tell my kids that if anything ever happens to call 911, but I also tell them to protect themselves if they have to,” the unidentified boy’s mother said at the time. “I never would have dreamed that this would have been a part of our day today.”
