Elementary School Volunteer Arrested For Forcing Students To Perform Sex Acts On Camera

A Maryland elementary school volunteer was arrested after police say they discovered explicit photos and videos of students performing sex acts on his cellphone.

Deonte Carraway, 22, was a volunteer teacher’s assistant at Judge Sylvania Woods Elementary School, WTTG reported. He was a paid assistant at the school the previous school year, and was also the director of the Glenarden Voices of Youth Choir.

Carraway was arrested on Feb. 5 after police found about 40 videos on his phone showing students, ranging from 9 to 13 years old, performing sex acts on each other or on their own under his direction, according to WTTG.

The arrest came after an uncle of one of the students discovered a nude photo on his nephew’s cellphone. He learned that the photo was allegedly sent to Carraway through the Kik messaging app and alerted the authorities.

The videos were reportedly produced at the elementary school, the Glenarden Municipal Center, the Theresa Banks Memorial Aquatic Center and in private homes. Police added that they believe Carraway abused some of the 10 known victims.

Carraway admitted his involvement in producing the child pornography, according to authorities. He is facing 10 counts of felony child pornography, sexual abuse of a minor and second-degree sexual offense.

Police said the investigation will last several months and additional charges are likely.

Prince George's County Public Schools issued the following statement regarding the issue:

Prince George's County Public Schools is shocked by the recent allegations. We will cooperate fully with law enforcement in this investigation. It's important to note that every PGCPS employee goes through a proper screening process before they are hired. The safety of our students is a top priority for PGCPS. We will have counselors available to help victims in their recovery process.

Carraway is being held on $1 million bail.
