A New York woman is in critical condition after a jumper fell from a third-floor window and landed on her.
The elderly woman, 71, was reportedly walking along the sidewalk on the east side of Manhattan when a female jumper fell from her window and landed on top of her.
“I heard a man scream and as soon as I turned...” witness Andre Ferrier said. “I was literally about 10 feet away from the woman when she hit the ground."
Witnesses said it happened so fast that they didn’t know what had occurred. Ferrier had been riding his bike near the scene of the incident. The 56-year-old jumper’s husband rushed outside of the building to his wife’s aid, as did others inside.
“I jumped into action," one witness said, reported WABC-TV. "I was actually the person who called the ambulance.”
“The woman who she bounced off of seemed to be a little hysterical at the time,” another added, according to WABC-TV. "She seemed to be hurt, but she seemed to be stable.”
The elderly woman was taken to Cornell University Hospital, where she was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, reported WABC-TV.
The woman who jumped was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.
“She was a very sweet woman, very sweet, and she used to come in and sit down and talk,” neighbor Ann Reilly said, according to WABC-TV.
“I was sick, I got depressed and my brother was upset," Reilly said. "We were all upset. We never thought of something like that ... somebody jumping out the window like that.”
