Elderly Man With Oxygen Tank Allegedly Attacked, Carjacked, Run Over During Ferguson Protests (Video)

While businesses try to put the pieces back together in Ferguson, Missouri, and demonstrators continue to protest a grand jury’s decision not to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown on Monday, an elderly man with an oxygen tank found himself attacked and carjacked.

The aftermath of the incident was captured on camera by a St. Louis news crew and shows the chaotic scene in the parking lot of Faraci Pizza, the Daily Mail reports.

Footage shows the victim lying down on the pavement with his oxygen tank right next to him.

“Only in America do you see stuff like this,” the elderly man allegedly told 52-year-old Jaye Perry.

Perry told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that she had been talking to the man before he went to his car to get a new portable oxygen tank, which he uses to help him breathe.

That’s when two men allegedly went up to him and took his car, but the elderly man tried to hold on to the steering wheel and was run over as the suspects sped away, according to the Post-Dispatch.

He did not appear to be severely injured, and continued to yell for his oxygen tank. An ambulance arrived at the scene and transported the man to a hospital. The victim’s identity is unknown, but he is expected to recover.

The perpetrators remain at large after the incident, CBS12 News reports.
