Missouri Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson says he will speak with officers who are wearing “I am Darren Wilson” bracelets on duty.
Wilson is the Ferguson police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown, 18, on Aug. 9.
Johnson would not say which officers or what agencies they work for.
He argued that the bracelets supporting Wilson are a personal statement for officers.
“I think that was not a statement of law enforcement. I think wearing that was an individual statement,” he said during a Wednesday press conference. "When we wear this uniform, we understand that we've got a professional standard that we adhere to."
According to Twitter user Ray Downs the bracelets cost $5. It is unclear what the proceeds are used for.
A makeshift memorial for Brown was destroyed by a fire on Tuesday. While police say the blaze was sparked by vigil candles, mourners believe it was intentionally burned.
