A dramatic video shows a man steal a motorcycle at gunpoint before being shot and reportedly killed by an undercover police officer in Brazil.
Mail Online reports that the video was captured by the owner of the motorbike who had a camera attached to the top of his helmet.
The start of the video simply shows the rider driving around the streets before coming to an intersection where he slows down. He reportedly is about to turn left when a passenger on another bike pulls up and points a gun at him.
The New York Daily News reports that the armed man, who has since been named as Escarante Leonardo Santos, pulled out a .38 caliber revolver and ordered the biker to get off his bike, according to authorities.
Santos then tries to mount the ride so he can escape, but a military police officer rushes across the road and shoots him in the leg.
According to the user who posted the video, the thief later died from his injuries.
Civil Police released a statement, posted by the New York Daily News, defending the shooting.
“Preliminary analysis of the video suggests that the action of the military police was legitimate and correct, with the observance of police techniques,” reads the statement.
“[The video] clearly shows that the robber pointed his gun towards the police officer. The actions demonstrated commitment to public cause, defending society from violent criminals.”
