This should make accused sex predator Dominique Strauss-Kahn's house arrest more palatable -- he is "locked up" in a $50,000 per month townhouse in one of Manhattan's trendiest neighborhood.
Strauss-Kahn moved to the 6,800-square-foot townhouse in TriBeCa Wednesday night from some dingy apartment on Broadway that reportedly left him feeling "very bored," according to his attorney.
Well, the alleged attacker will certainly not be bored in his new digs. According to a story in the New York Daily News, the place is equipped with a movie theater, a gym, a master bath with a "rainfall steam shower." and four bedrooms to roam around. It's unlikely, however, that any maids will be around to clean up.
Strauss-Kahn is accused of chasing down a housekeeper at a New York City hotel, forcing her into a room and then trying to rape her. He spent a few days in a jail cell at lovely Rikers Island before being sprung on house arrest.
Neighbors are outraged that an accused criminal is living in such luxury.
"He must really be suffering in there with the spa and private theater," said Annette Goodman, rolling her eyes. "It's the height of hypocrisy. House arrest does not mean a luxury townhouse."
"Please, God, no," said Linda Buongermino.. "They should have found a place for him in jail. This will disrupt all our lives."
Prosecutors signed off on the townhouse, saying it meets all of the security requirements necessary for the house arrest.
If he couldn't rent the place, the owner was trying to sell the house for a whopping $13.9 million. New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez and his girlfriend Cameron Diaz recently checked out the place, but they apparently passed.
Here are some photos of the "cell":
