Shocking photos captured a driver holding leashes out of a car window, with two dogs attached to the other end, being dragged the whole time.

The photos show a man leaning out of the passenger’s side window of the vehicle, holding on to a dog’s leash as it is dragged alongside the moving car in Gloucester, England. On the other side is another dog, which was reportedly being dragged along by two children inside the vehicle.

“I'm still thinking about it -- it was horrible,” a witness said.

Some people thought the passengers were somehow taking the dogs for a walk, reports the Mirror.

“Worst thing was that the man was driving and asked two teens or children to drag the dogs. The driver dragged the dogs for miles and there was a queue of cars behind him. I asked my wife to take the pictures after I saw the two dogs getting squashed by a car coming from the opposite side of the road."

England's Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals responded to the incident, calling it  “extremely dangerous" for the dogs.

It added, "An accident could so easily happen not only to the dogs, but also could be a danger to other road users. We would strongly urge people not to do this with their dogs as it is extremely dangerous and irresponsible. Dog owners have a legal responsibility to help protect their pet from hazards however these dogs were put in a potentially very hazardous and dangerous situation."

In a similar incident in Indiana, a man was arrested and jailed for dragging a dog 5 miles to its death behind a truck.

Brandon Cox was arrested in May on charges of aiding, inducing or causing the killing of a domestic animal, aiding, inducing or causing the torture of mutilation of an animal and misdemeanor animal cruelty.

Cox was detained in Mount Vernon, Indiana, a few hours after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was held in lieu of $10,000 bail, IndyStar reported.
