An Indian family is asking for financial help to pay for medical tests to find out why their son is bleeding from his eyes.
Sagar Dorji, 4, started having problems several months ago, Daily Mail reported.
“First, his eyes got swollen and looked bloodshot -- then they started to come out of the socket and bleed,” said Kusum Dorji, Sagar’s mother.
After the blood has seeped out of Sagar’s eyes, it forms into a clot over the eye and hardens. He has gone blind from the mystery condition.
“I don't know whose curse has fallen upon us,” Kusum said.
Sagar has been taken to a state-run facility in Assam state, where doctors are reportedly treating him for cancer. But they have refused to say why.
“I am not happy with the treatment provided at the hospital,” Sagar’s father, Pratim Dorji, said.
Pratim works as a laborer and cannot afford the medical tests needed, which cost the equivalent of $156.
“I have seen no improvement in his condition since he was brought to the Guwahati hospital last week,” he said. “But I have no option but to continue this treatment as I cannot afford to fund costly treatment in a bigger city like Mumbai or Delhi.”
Kusum has appealed for financial and spiritual support.
“I appeal to all kind-hearted people to help me save my son. Any other parents will be able to feel my pain,” she said. “Help me save my child by contributing whatever you can. Those of you who cannot, please pray for him.”
Similar symptoms were reported in March in the case of Marnie Harvey, a 17-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent in the U.K.
Doctors found no tumors, blood conditions or blood clotting disorders.
Harvey explained that her plans to become a nurse, find a boyfriend and go on vacation had to be abandoned.
“I never know when it’s going to happen and I don’t like scaring people,” she said, reports Metro.
