DNC Convention Chair: Trump Right On China

The chairman of the Democratic National Convention, former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, thinks presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is right about China.

"You know, all that Donald Trump says isn't wrong," Rendell said in an interview with SiriusXM's Dean Obeidallah. "It's the way he says it -- and there are many things he does say that's wrong."

“But [Trump's] right about China," Rendell said, reports the Washington Examiner. "We have, for some reason, not stood up to China. We've allowed them to manipulate their currency, which gives their businesses tremendous advantage in selling to America. They came in here and tried to dump low-priced, subsidized steel pipe to get rid of the steel pipe industry in the U.S."

Rendell also agrees with Trump on trade, as it pertains to China.

“[China has taken] advantage of us in trade and cost Pennsylvania some significant jobs,” he said.

In May, Trump said during a rally in Indiana that China was responsible for “the greatest theft in the history of the world,” according to BBC News.

“We can’t continue to allow China to rape our country, and that’s what we’re doing,” Trump said. “We’re going to turn it around, and we have the cards, don’t forget it. We have a lot of power with China.”

During his interview, Rendell reiterated that Trump does make correct statements.

“There are some things that Donald Trump talks about that do have a germ of reason or a germ of truth,” he said.

Regardless of him agreeing with Trump on some points, Rendell made sure to state he was absolutely a supporter of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

“I think [Trump] really stands against everything that makes this country great,” Rendell said. “He would divide us, he would pit one group against another.”
