Detroit Woman Arrested After Police Find Two Dead Children In The Freezer

A 36-year-old Detroit woman has been arrested after police found two dead children inside her freezer. Police reports indicate that that the children were in the freezer for over a year.

Detroit police were carrying out an eviction order on the Mitchelle Blair’s apartment when they found the frozen bodies. At first they thought there was one frozen woman in the bag, but later determined that there were two children.

Police Chief James Craig said: “It appeared to be a male who…is approximately 11 years old and a female (who is approximately) 14 years old inside of a plastic bag. They appeared to be frozen."

Blair was taken into custody as a person of interest. She was held for further investigation.

Police did not disclose whether Blair was the mother of the deceased children. However, she was living in the apartment with two of her kids, who are 11 and 17.

According to CBS Detroit, Blair confessed to killing both children found in the freezer after she discovered they were molesting a younger sibling. She reportedly killed the 11-year-old boy in May 2012 before later killing the 14-year-old girl.

The two other children in the apartment were unharmed, police said, and there were no weapons found on the premises.

"She's been living there with other children while the bodies were in the freezer," Assistant Chief Steve Dolunt said, according to the Chicago Tribune. "This is a terrible situation.”

"It's unknown at this point what factors were involved in this," said Craig. "We're still trying to determine what happened."

Tori Childs, who lives in the apartment complex, told The Detroit News that she saw the bodies in the home while police were completing the eviction.

Childs said: “I just know that when we walked past, we saw two bodies on the floor. It was a little girl and a little boy. The little girl had on a pink jacket."

The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office will complete an autopsy to determine the cause of death of both children.
