Details of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's Bedside Meeting with Judge, Attorneys (Video)

On MSNBC's “The Rachel Maddow Show” last night, the host described how Federal Judge Marianne Bowler and attorneys met at Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's bedside at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston on Monday to read him his Miranda rights and determine when he would appear in court (video below).

Due to bullet wounds, Tsarnaev is unable to speak and is answering questions by writing or nodding his head, reports

Officials said that Tsaraev communicated that “he and his brother were not in touch with any overseas terrorists or groups, and that they conceived the bombing attack on their own, motivated by religious fervor.”

Tsarnaev was read his Miranda rights and Judge Bowler appointed him a public defense attorney. The next hearing was set for May 30, when Tsarnaev is expected to appear in a courtroom, reported theDaily Mail.

Tsarnaev is charged with one use of a weapon of mass destruction and one count of malicious destruction of property resulting in death. The maximum penalties include life imprisonment and death.

“That’s the way we do it in this country,” Maddow stated. “Even if justice has to travel to you in your hospital bed as you recover from gunshot wounds to the head and the neck and the legs and the hand. The judge will come to you and the prosecutor, and you will get read your rights and be assigned a defense attorney if you cannot afford one, and you will be tried in court, in civilian court. You are nothing special.”
