Derek Medina Claims Self-Defense After Shooting, Killing Wife Jennifer Alfonso And Posting Photo Of Her Body On Facebook


A Florida man who allegedly shot and killed his wife and then posted a photo of her body on Facebook told police he was acting in self-defense. His statement to the police and an autopsy report have been released.

Derek Medina has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. He allegedly shot and killed his wife during a fight at their home in August.

“I’m not a killer,” Derek Medina said in an August video released Friday by prosecutors, according to CNN. “I do not feel that I’m guilty and I feel like this was self-defense.”

Medina claims he and wife, Jennifer Alfonso, were having an argument and she was throwing objects at him, including shoes, boxes, mascara and creams.

Medina reportedly said that at one point, he pulled a gun on his wife and told her to stop. The couple then talked more and he put the weapon away and she told him she was leaving him. After another conversation, Alonso reportedly started punching him and he got the gun again. She then grabbed a knife, which he claims he got out of her hands. reports that a medical examiner’s report revealed Medina repeatedly shot his wife at point-blank range as she may have been kneeling and trying to shield her face.

The report indicates Alfonso was shot several times in her left forearm, and several bullets traveled at a downward angle, including one that entered her chin and became lodged in her back near her ribs.

Medina said he shot his wife “six to eight times” and reportedly posted the photo of Alfonso’s body on Facebook to notify her family.

According to authorities, Medina wrote on Facebook, “Im going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys take care Facebook people you will see me in the news.”

His trial is expected to begin next month.
