Former Beauty Queen Accused Of Smuggling Cocaine

A former Jamaican beauty queen and JetBlue flight attendant who was accused of attempting to smuggle a suitcase full of cocaine through Los Angeles International Airport and dramatically fleeing has been arrested in New York, according to authorities.

Marsha Gay Reynolds, former runner up to Miss Jamaica 2008, faces federal drug charges after authorities say they found 70 pounds of cocaine in her suitcase at LAX on March 18 after being pulled for a random security screening, kicking off her high heel shoes and fleeing barefoot down an escalator.

According to police, Reynolds fled the terminal and eventually made it across the country to New York. It is unclear how she reached New York, according to The Jamaica Observer.

Reynolds’ defense lawyer, Allan Jennings, says the flight attendant may not have been fully aware of what was in her luggage.

In court following the incident, U.S. Attorney Alicia Washington said this was “not the only time the defendant has engaged in this conduct,” but she did not elaborate.

Reynolds was charged with cocaine possession with intent to distribute and her bail has been set at $500,000.
