A 2-year-old child has died after being buried alive by snow that fell off a roof.
The incident occurred on Feb. 26, Idaho News reported.
Fremont County Sheriff Len Humphries said two 7-year-old girls and a 2-year-old girl were outside of a cabin when they were buried in nearly 7 feet of heavy snow and ice that slid off the roof. Humphries said so much snow fell from the roof that it took more than 30 minutes to locate the children.
The children were found unconscious and were flown to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. The two 7-year-olds were revived at the scene. The 2-year-old was revived in the medical helicopter but was “clinging to life” at the hospital, according to sources with spoke with East Idaho News.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office now reports that the 2-year-old has died as a result of the accident. The other two victims are in fair condition.
“This was a freak accident,” Humphries told East Idaho News. “It was heart wrenching for the dispatchers and EMTs and firemen and everyone who responded. Our prayers are with the kids and their families.”
Officials did not release the names of the children involved.
