A Texas daycare worker allegedly slammed an 18-month-old face down on the ground (video below).
Caitlin Gilmore, the mother of the boy, was watching the live feed from The Children's Courtyard daycare center in Plano from work on her lunch break when she saw Jazmine Torres, 22, handle her son roughly at nap time, the Daily Mail reports.
What Gilmore initially saw was not caught on video. When she left to pick her son up from the center, her office friends continued watching and began filming the live stream on their cell phones.
In the captured video, Torres carries a boy to a mat on the ground. She places him down with a blanket, picks him up again from under his arms, and then swings him, letting the boy fall face down on the ground. She then covers the child in a blanket and sits down next to him.
The video was shared on Facebook by Gilmore's friends as a warning to parents, according to the Daily Mail. It has been viewed more than 800,000 times.
The mother of the boy in the video took him to the hospital and doctors found that he was not injured.
"It was horrifying for her to watch. They took him to the ER immediately after the incident and he checked out to be okay. Doctor said you'd be surprised how resilient kids are," Amber McHenry, who posted the footage online, told the Daily Mail.
After police were made aware of the footage by the boy's mother and the daycare center, a warrant for Torres' arrest was issued.
She will reportedly face one count of felony child endangerment.
Police said that the video was "unacceptable" and that Torres was cooperating with the investigation.
"Any parent out there, it's going to be something that's just horrific. Any human being to see a toddler treated that way is just, that's just unacceptable," David Tilley, a spokesman for the police department, said.
The Children's Playground supports Torres being investigated.
"Upon being made aware of this situation, we immediately notified the authorities and partnered with the state as well as conducted our own investigation. Those involved are no longer employed with us," it said in a statement.
In Spring, Texas, a male daycare worker is facing charges for allegedly slamming a 4-year-old girl to the ground.
“When the parents picked up the child from the daycare center, they were provided a form from the daycare center saying the child had basically hurt themselves by tumbling within the classroom,” said Chief Matt Rodrigue with the Montgomery County Constables Office, Precinct 3, according to KFOR.
The child told her parents an alternative story, and surveillance video showed she was telling the truth.
In the footage, employee Gregory Diglin is seen grabbing the girl by the arm and slamming her to the ground. She sustained injuries when her face hit the floor.
