A South Carolina daycare teacher has been charged with child abuse after a father claims she assaulted his 5-year-old son.
Sandra Lorayne Teska, 60, of Simpsonville, was charged with cruelty to children, police said. A father had told Kiddie Academy daycare employees that Teska abused his son, Fox Carolina reported.
According to warrants, Teska forced the boy’s head on the floor and bruised his eye. Crimes Against Children investigated the incident.
Teska, who is currently out of jail on a security bond, declined to comment on the charges against her. Her attorney said he reviewed the video footage of the alleged incident and said his client did not hurt the child. He said the boy was hitting Teska and that she was just trying to keep the child away.
The daycare issued the following statement:
"The Kiddie Academy of Five Forks takes the health, safety, and well-being of the children in our care as paramount. After gathering facts of the situation, we contacted the proper agencies. They began their investigations, in which we cooperated, and continue to cooperate, fully. All of our teachers undergo a full DSS and SLED background check prior to being employed.
"This teacher was on her third day with Kiddie Academy, but had years of experience in child care. She was released the day following the incident. The parents of the child were immediately made aware of the incident. They have displayed their confidence in Kiddie Academy of Five Forks, as they continue to have their children in our care."
Teska has been working in the childcare field for more than 20 years.
