A Welsh woman claims her parents forced her to have sex with at least 1,800 men before she was 18 years old as part of a Satanic sex cult they ran out of their suburban home.
Annabelle Forest says she was initiated into the cult at age 7, when she was forced to watch her mother perform a sex act on her partner.
Jacqueline Marling, then 42, and Colin Batley, then 48, were arrested in 2011 for systematically abused the girl and others in their home in Kidwelly, Wales.
In a book released after their conviction, Forest explains how she was forced into prostitution to raise money for the cult. She was told that the acts were sexual “tests” that would win her God’s love.
The “cult” consisted of people who all lived on the same cul-de-sac.
She claimed Batley raped her twice by the time she was 11, and at age 14 she was forced to take part in group sex with her mother. She became pregnant with Batley’s child when she was 17 and fled the home after giving birth.
She didn’t see her mother against untilt the sentencing in 2011.
“I went to the sentencing in court because I wanted to see her one last time, I wanted her to reach out to me, to say it was all his fault and she was under his spell,” Forest said. “But she didn't. She just made a face and asked what I was doing there.”
Marling was sentenced to 11 years and Batley to 12.
“She went to prison unrepentant and I suppose that made me realize it wasn't just him. She was evil too,” Forest said of her mother. “As a mother myself I can hardly believe how she treated me. It was unnatural and cruel.”
The Swansea Crown Court found Batley guilty of 35 offences, ruling that he had raped and molested children and young people for more than three decades.
"You formed a community within a community, you were described as evil. That, in my view, is an entirely accurate statement of your character,” Judge Paul Thomas QC said in court in 2011.
The cult claimed it followed The Book of the Law by Aleister Crowley, which laudes free sex and prostitution. Judge Thomas said Batley used the occult to manipulate others.
"It is likely that you have dedicated your life since you were 12 years old to satisfying your sexual urges by whatever means at your disposal,” Thomas said.
Batley vehemently denied the charges in court and part of his eligibility for parole is to prove he no longer represents a danger to the public — including admitting guilt.
