Although New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has said that there’s “no truth” to rumors that the team is shopping All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis, reports that the Jets are looking to move their injured superstar are everywhere.
Revis is coming off of an ACL injury and his bloated salary might just be too much for the rebuilding Jets to retain. The team is not going to be a contender this season and keeping Revis on the books could set the franchise back for years to come. The question is, what could the Jets actually get for Revis and where could he end up?
Here are a few possible scenarios:
Kansas City Chiefs: This rumor was pretty big last week but that was before Kansas City made their trade to acquire Alex Smith from the 49ers. The Chiefs still have draft picks to deal and they could obviously use Revis, but they might feel as if they need to keep their picks after splurging on Smith.
49ers: San Francisco has a ton of draft picks this season (including the one they just got from Kansas City) and they are obviously one of the favorites to make it to the Super Bowl. Revis could be the piece that puts them over the top this year. It’s unclear exactly what the Jets are seeking in exchange for Revis but the 49ers ostensibly have a lot that they could offer and a real incentive to do so.
Patriots: If Revis plays for the Jets this year it will likely be because he knows he will be heading somewhere else in free agency after the season. A logical landing place would be New England. With all the back-and-forth Revis has gone through with the New York’s management, he might want to stick it to the Jets franchise. What better way than by joining their hated division rivals up in New England?
