A bike-riding daredevil was prepared with medical, logistical and rescue support for his jump off what has been called “the world’s most dangerous road.”
Unsurprisingly, he ended up needing all three.
The daredevil, identified only as Annon, received minor injuries, especially considering the road’s nickname.
The jumper caught the entire jump on a GoPro camera attached to his helmet. He is seen cycling off the ramp he had set up 4,650 feet above the ground.
As he approaches the edge and takes off, something goes wrong and he starts to freefall towards the forest below.
“Unfortunately the jump didn’t go quite as well as planned as you will see in the video,” Allistair Matthew with Gravity Bolivia, a company that assists with mountain biking, wrote in the Vimeo description for the video. “However I am pleased to report that owing to all the advance rescue and medical support preparations we were able to extract the ‘crasher’ quickly, and he suffered minor injuries, specifically as he puts it: ‘a broken arse, fractures in his forearm and cut tendons in his knee.”
The Yungus Road, located in Bolivia and known as the “Death Road,” is a popular destination among mountain bikers. While thousands try to tackle it, they usually stay on the road, unlike this guy.
According to their website, Gravity Bolivia has “pioneered safety and fun in moutain biking in Bolivia.”
Matthew wrote that while the stunt is “a fairly stupid idea… gone mildly wrong,” there is a “more sane way to tackle the Bolivian Death Road.”
