Man Blames CPS For His 5-Year-Old Son's Death

A mother reportedly killed her 5-year-old son on March 5 in Montana and then killed herself. Now, the child's father claims no one stopped the boy's mentally unstable mother.

Mother Sara Atkinson shot 5-year-old Kenny Kreuscher in the head while he slept and then shot herself. Both were pronounced dead at a hospital.

"Got there two hours after he died,” the father, Ken Kreuscher, told KDVR. "He fought for his life for over 12 hours.”

Kreuscher pursued a restraining order against his ex-wife, 41-year-old Atkinson, and had court records of her unpredictable behavior. He says she became progressively paranoid, stopped taking her medications and was more violent toward the boy. But no one intervened.

“I've been telling everyone in court this was a possibility that this would happen,” Kreuscher said.

Kreuscher revealed a long paper trail to back up his claims Atkinson was becoming increasingly dangerous, showing that Denver Human Services failed to protect Kenny, reports KDVR.

"Just erratic mental illness everywhere and no one really helped me,” Kreuscher said. “And I'm here because I don't want this to happen to anybody else. It's not right what they did.”

Kreuscher submitted a video of Kenny taken just days before he died, reports Daily Mail.

In the clip, Ken talks to Kenny about a bruise on his arm purportedly caused by Atkinson punching the boy.

Kreuscher says he showed the video to a case worker, who came to visit his home shortly after. But the case worker allegedly told Kreuscher there wasn’t much she could do, reports Daily Mail.

"And she stood in front of me and pointed at my closet and said, ‘Unless your kid's being stuck in a closet every day or beaten every day, I'm not going to do anything about it, and if you call back, if I hear back from you about this kind of stuff, I'm going to take him from you and her,'" Kreuscher told KDVR.

In a statement, Denver Human Services said: "The loss of this child is an absolute tragedy for this family, their loved ones and friends, and for our community and agency. We are working to understand the circumstances surrounding this horrible act."
