Dad Tells Boy, 6, to Lie About Shooting His Sister, 4, in Face (Video)

Fred Maphis is accused of telling his 6-year-old son to lie to authorities after the boy shot his 4-year-old sister in the face with a shotgun.

Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in Alma, Wis. on Aug. 30, where the girl had been shot in the side of the head with a shotgun blast, noted News 8000 (video below).

Now, authorities claim that Maphis told his son to say that the shotgun had accidentally gone off when he dropped it, but the boy later admitted that his dad instructed him to lie because he had pointed the gun at his sister and pulled the trigger, reports the Jackson County Chronicle.

The boy told law enforcement that his sister wanted him to aim the shotgun at her, but said he aimed it too close to her ear.

The mother told investigators that the boy had been training with guns since the age of 3 and had his own .22 caliber rifle, but was only allowed to shoot with adult supervision.

His "adult supervision," Maphis, claims he forgot to unload and secure the shotgun.

Maphis is scheduled to be in court on Sept. 23 on misdemeanor charges of leaving a loaded firearm near a child and obstructing an officer.

The girl’s injuries were not life threatening.
