A Mexican father was arrested for allegedly molesting his young daughter at a restaurant.
A waitress in Tabasco, Mexico, recorded Juan Vicente Hernández León, aka the “Tabasco Pedophile,” allegedly molesting his 4-year-old daughter while seated at a table with a group of people at a restaurant, the Latin Times reports. In the video, León’s daughter is reportedly sitting on his lap when he reaches his hand up her dress.
The video was uploaded to social media by the waitress and has since gone viral. The waitress was reportedly let go from her job because she shared the video.
León was arrested by police while trying to board a bus to Mexico City, Mirror reports. His daughter is in the care of Mexican authorities while she undergoes medical checks.
"Juan Vicente Hernandez Leon, the alleged [pedophile] relating to the case of a video in a restaurant in which he was seen with his hand under the clothes of a minor, was arrested on the afternoon of April 11, when he was [traveling] by bus.,” Tabasco state police tweeted.
León contends that he was not molesting his daughter, but simply caressing her stomach and leg because she had an accident at the Palenque cascades in Chiapas where the family were vacationing, the Latin Times reports.
His lawyer claims the video is not sufficient proof for a molestation charge, and that León should not be detained by authorities since they have “lynched” him without giving him the right to defend himself.
León’s wife posted a video to Facebook in his defense.
Silvia Algomeda says in the video that the accusations against her husband have caused “moral harm” to her family and problems at work for León. She also expressed her concerned for her daughter because she has been removed from their care, causing her psychological harm.
She asks viewers of the video to consider the following: "Would she [daughter] be so calm if my husband would be touching her inappropriately?"
If convicted, León may serve between 15 to 20 years in prison.
