A Phoenix, Arizona, couple got the surprise of a lifetime this week while renovating their kitchen.
In a post on Imgur Thursday, a woman shared pictures of their amazing discovery of over $50,000 in a safe in their kitchen floor.
According to the post, the couple found a safe code in the back of a medicine cabinet when they first moved into the house, never knowing what it unlocked. When they discovered the safe in the floor during demolition, they tried the code. After five or six attempts, the safe was opened.
Inside the safe was about $51,000, a book, and a bottle of bourbon dated 1960.
"We stared in disbelief," she wrote in the Imgur post. "Time stood still."
Inside the book -- 1977's "A Guide for the Perplexed" by E.F. Schumacher -- were several black and white photos, a bingo card, and a map.
On the back of one of the photos was a message that read: "Alan, I have a book you must read. I've underlined a few key passages."
It was signed, "Your Friend, Vincent."
The couple said that they aren't sure what they will do with the money yet, but added: "If Alan is still out there, it was meant for him after all. But we're keeping the bourbon!"
