Police are investigating a double homicide after a Georgia couple were found dead in a car with their 3-year-old daughter next to them.
The vehicle was found in a ditch on Aug. 6 around 2 a.m. in Powder Springs, Georgia with its headlights still on. Police found 24-year-old Anthony Joseph Costner and his wife, 22-year-old Catherine Amanda Costner, inside the vehicle, WXIA reported.
Anthony was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds, while Catherine had at least one gunshot wound. She was rushed to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Police also found the couple’s 3-year-old daughter unharmed inside the vehicle. Officers initially thought they were responding to a single-vehicle accident before making the disturbing discovery.
Catherine’s brother, Jordan Quinn, said the couple had left their home that night, saying they were going to meet someone, Channel 2 Action reported. Jordan said they appeared nervous when they left.
Catherine’s mother, Cynthia Quinn, told the news station she believes Anthony was targeted.
“I think someone had it in for her husband for some reason,” she said. “God bless the baby wasn’t hurt.”
The family is asking for anyone who might have any information about whoever is responsible for the murder of the couple to come forward.
“I know somebody knows something,” Cynthia said. “And we don’t care. We just want this person brought to justice.”
