Report: Couple Caught With 26 Pounds Of Heroin In A Box Of Diapers

Law enforcement officials in Modesto, California, found some items in a box of diapers that were almost certainly not intended for infants.

The Modesto Narcotics Enforcement Team reportedly found 26 pounds of heroin hidden in a box of diapers during a traffic stop on Feb. 25, with the help of a K-9 named Stryker.

Israel Alcazar, 34, and his wife Isabel Soto-Mandragon, 20, were in the car with their 10-month-old baby when they were pulled over. According to FOX40, the heroin in their vehicle was exceptionally pure and had a street value of more than $2.3 million.

“We know we have taken a high level drug trafficker off of the street with this arrest,” said Sergeant Kelly Rea, the supervisor of MNET. “This was a significant seizure and should really make a dent in the access to heroin in Modesto.”

MNET investigators later searched Alcazar and Soto-Mandragon’s home and seized a handgun and more than $1,200 in cash. The baby is now in the custody of Child Protective Services.

The couple was charged with transportation of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale and felony child endangerment. Alcazar was also charged with being armed in the commission of a felony.
