The discovery of cell phone videos showing a 1-year-old child placing a handgun in her mouth has led to the arrest of the child’s mother and her boyfriend.
The Indiana couple was arrested after Evansville, Indiana, police uncovered the videos when Michael Barnes, 19, was arrested for trying to sell a handgun to an undercover officer, reports Yahoo News.
The videos were found on Barnes’ cell phone.
Barnes and the girl’s 22-year-old mother, Toni Wilson, are allegedly the voices heard in the videos.
"Barnes can be heard telling the child to say 'pow' on multiple occasions while the child plays with the gun," police said. "The video also shows the child placing the muzzle of the gun in her mouth. At no point does Barnes try to stop the child from playing with the gun.”
“Say bang…shoot,” the man can be heard saying to the girl as she points the gun towards her mouth.
He repeats the word “bang” multiple times to the child as she waves the gun around in her hands.
“Shoot that thang, fat baby,” the man says.
In the second video, seen below edited together with the others, the man repeatedly says “pow, pow” as the child tries to imitate him.
The mother told police the child was holding a pellet gun, reports WTNH. Investigators claim it was a .40-caliber handgun.
The gun’s magazine appears to have been removed, but it is unknown whether the chamber was cleared.
The child and 1-month-old twins in the home have been placed in emergency care.
Barnes and Wilson face charges, including child neglect and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. Barnes also faces charges related to the gun sale.
